Girls Junior Varsity Golf, Girls Varsity Golf · Girls Golf – Summer Letter From Coach Shelley

Hello Girls Golf Players/Parents,

I wanted to touch base as we are now into summer and fall will be here before we know it.

While playing over the summer is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged as skill level will determine team placement starting August 6th when fall sports begin.  I expect that all golfers are out on the golf course  during the summer to prepare for the season so that we are ready the first day of fall practice.  We have changed our home course to NORMANDIE Golf Course, so you need to be playing up there as much as possible.

Varsity will only dress a certain amount of players for games and seniors are not guaranteed a position on varsity. Some seniors may even be placed on JV as players will be placed at the appropriate skill level. The goal for any person interested in varsity level golf is to play 9 holes with a score of 50 or less.

Where an individual is placed at the beginning of the season does not necessarily mean that is where they will be all year.  The program will continually evaluate players throughout the season to ensure we are putting our best foot forward.  This means coming prepared day one to practice is vital. There will also be leadership opportunities within the program for those looking to be a part of the team in a different capacity.

At all golf practices there is a dress code enforced by the golf course.  You need to have a collared shirt (sleeveless or short sleeve polo style) & comfortable shorts with tennis shoes or golf shoes.  T-shirts, blue jeans & flip flop/open toed shoes are not allowed.

An initial Girls Golf meeting will start promptly at 4:00 p.m. on August 6th, located at CHS up in one of the Health Rooms above Stuber Gym.  We will go off campus and finish at Andy’s Custard (bring some custard money$).  We should be back on campus around 6 p.m.  The Varsity & JV golf practice & game schedule is located on the girls golf website & on Coach Kim Shelley’s teacher website.

Eligibility requirements are due June 8th, which include a physical turned into Deb Dornfeld, and additional forms that will need to be filled out in the eDocs found in powerschool. I have attached the physical document that will need to be filled out along with an outline of what will need to be completed for eligibility.

Remember that you are only allowed three unexcused absences during the season and if you are not prepared, and at practice day one, this will have a negative impact on your initial success.

The cut-off date for JV and Varsity will be Wednesday August 8th.

For Freshman it will be Friday August 10th.

If you are going to be out of town on August 6th, or if there are extenuating circumstances, you must contact the coaching staff by July 1st to ensure your participation won’t be impacted.

Additionally, our first Varsity game is Wednesday, August 29th so please be sure to mark your calendars.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
