Multiple Teams · Linwood “Ray” Barnes named new Football Head Coach

After many years as an Assistant Coach and a Coordinator, Linwood “Ray” Barnes has been named the Head Football Coach at Clayton High School.

Barnes background in football started at a young age and he began his playing experience at the age of 7.

Football has been in his blood since then and Coach Barnes’ Uncle, Jeff Barnes, played in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders for 11 years from 1976-1987 and Ray enjoyed an outstanding high school career in San Diego as both a wide receiver and a quarterback.

After a year at Grossmont Junior College in California Coach Barnes was recruited by and played for Sean Payton, who is currently coaching the New Orleans Saints, at Miami Of Ohio.

He ended his college career with his BA from SIUC and began his football coaching career in 2002 as a volunteer assistant.

Over the next 14 years Coach Barnes was an assistant at both Hazelwood East and McCluer High Schools and won a State Championship at Hazelwood East in 2008.

He will continue to teach US History and Government at Hazelwood East High School while coaching at Clayton.

We are excited to add Coach Barnes to the Greyhound Family and look forward to helping him build the program!
